What is special about Wildwood UK Landscape design?
The design ethic
To appreciate our perspective we would like to invite you to take a bold step out of the conventional world of designed landscapes and into a world with fully functioning ecosysytems. Ecosystems support a huge amount of species and are therefore the richest in life.
In the UK, nearly every square km of the land is converted into housing, roads, industry or farmland. The ecosystem is fragmented and all but gone. Ecosystem –based landscape design promotes the survival of native or naturalised forms of life and the complex food web in which they are all connected. For example: Many insect eating birds and mammals are becoming rarer.
To truly and holistically conserve these creatures, we need to create the habitat that sustains their food (insects in this case) and the habitat that sustains the insects food and so on. This is a relatively simple concept but sadly it rarely makes its way into landscape design . We design an ecosystem –based landscape comprising of a rich mosaic of native species and the structural habitats they live in. This can be a square metre or a square mile, both will be valuable relatively speaking…..
